Relieve lower back pain
Years of sitting and improper posture can lead to a lot of discomfort and pain in your lower back. But today, I’m going to show you a few simple stretches you can do to help get some relief.
First, you want to start by lying down on your back. Bend your knees and place your feet on the floor. Slowly, while keeping your back stationary, lower both legs to the left side of your body. You should feel a gentle stretch in your lower back. Hold this position for 10-20 seconds, then repeat on the opposite side.
Next, you can do a piriformis stretch. Start by lying on your back and place one foot flat on the floor and the other across your opposite thigh. Slowly bring your knee to the opposite side of your body until you feel a comfortable stretch in your lower back and hip. Hold for 15 to 20 seconds, then repeat on the other side.
Another option is to perform a cat-cow stretch. Start on all fours, making sure your hands are under your shoulders and knees directly below your hips. As you inhale, arch your spine up toward the ceiling and let your stomach sink toward the floor. As you exhale, round your spine up toward the ceiling letting your head and neck drop. Repeat up to 10 times.
Finally, you can do a supine twist to help relax your lower back muscles. Begin by lying flat on your back with your arms extended out from your shoulder and both legs flat on the floor. As you exhale, pull both knees in toward your chest then extend one leg across your body. Hold for 10-20 seconds, then repeat with the other leg.
So that’s it! They’re simple stretches that you can do at home to help relieve some of your lower back pain. Be sure to consult with a doctor before attempting any type of exercise, though. I hope you find these helpful!
