8 Foods and Drinks to Help Alleviate Cold and Flu Symptoms

While there is no cure for the common cold, there are some foods and drinks that may help alleviate the symptoms. Here are some examples:

  1. Chicken soup: Chicken soup contains anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce congestion and relieve nasal inflammation.

  2. Hot tea with honey: The warmth of the tea and the soothing properties of honey may help relieve sore throat and cough symptoms.

  3. Garlic: Garlic has antibacterial and antiviral properties that may help boost the immune system and reduce cold symptoms.

  4. Ginger tea: Ginger has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help reduce inflammation and relieve cough and sore throat symptoms.

  5. Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are rich in vitamin C, which may help boost the immune system and reduce the severity and duration of cold symptoms.

  6. Hot water with lemon and honey: The warmth of the water, the soothing properties of honey, and the vitamin C in lemon may help relieve sore throat and cough symptoms.

  7. Peppermint tea: Peppermint has decongestant properties that may help reduce nasal congestion and relieve cough symptoms.

  8. Turmeric milk: Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help reduce inflammation and boost the immune system.

It's important to note that these foods and drinks may help alleviate symptoms, but they do not cure the common cold. It's also important to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest to help your body fight off the virus

Stay Active on Rainy Days: 6 Fitness Activities You Can Do Indoors

Staying fit and healthy can be challenging, especially when the weather doesn't cooperate with our plans. Rainy days can make it difficult to exercise outdoors, but that doesn't mean you have to skip your workout altogether. There are plenty of fitness activities you can do while it's raining, here are 6.

  1. Indoor Cycling

Indoor Cycling is a great cardio workout that can be done indoors on a stationary bike. Peloton has proven that it can be fun too! You can use an app or watch a cycling video to create a virtual ride that mimics the feeling of outdoor cycling. Indoor cycling is perfect for rainy days when you can't get outside, and it's also a low-impact activity that's easy on your joints.

  2. Dance Fitness

Dancing is a fun and effective way to get your heart rate up and burn calories. There are plenty of dance fitness videos available online, from Zumba to hip hop, that you can follow along with in the comfort of your own home. Dancing is a great way to improve your coordination, balance, and overall fitness.

  3. Yoga

Yoga is a low-impact activity that's perfect for rainy days. A local favorite of mine is Red Dragon Yoga in San Rafael, California. Make sure to book a class with Liv, she’s amazing! You can find plenty of yoga videos online, or attend a virtual yoga class. Yoga is great for improving your flexibility, balance, and strength, and it's also a great way to reduce stress and improve your mental health.

  4. HIIT Workouts

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a great way to get a full-body workout in a short amount of time. HIIT workouts typically involve short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by periods of rest. You can find plenty of HIIT workout videos online, or create your own routine using exercises like jumping jacks, squats, and lunges.

  5. Strength Training

As some of you know this is my favorite. Strength training is an important component of any fitness routine, and it can easily be done indoors on a rainy day. You can use bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats, and lunges, or use weights if you have them available. Strength training is great for building muscle, improving your posture, confidence, and overall mood.

  6. Swimming

If you have access to an indoor pool, swimming is a great way to get a full-body workout while staying out of the rain. Swimming is a low-impact activity that's great for improving your cardiovascular health, strength, and endurance.

There are plenty of fitness activities you can do while it's raining that will help you stay active and motivated. From indoor cycling to yoga, dancing, and HIIT workouts, there's something for everyone. So don't let rainy weather put a damper on your fitness routine – try one of these activities and stay healthy and active all year round.
